'T Paenhuys is an authentic brewery in the borough of Nieuwkerken. The name means 'a place where pans and kettles are kept to brew beer'.

Paul Van Nieulande has been brewing beer for more than 10 years. The 'Zwarte Zjef' is a pitch-black 9 percent Stout. The Stout has a very broad appeal because of its sweet and slightly roasted coffee flavour.

Another famous beer from this brewery is the 'Puitenkop', an Ale of 5.6% with a bitter taste. The name 'Puitenkop' refers to the regional Waasland dialect word for 'frog' and symbolizes the hoppy taste of the beer. "If you are not a fan of a bitter taste, then you look like a frog when you drink it".
