The 16th century Walburg Castle is located in a picturesque green oasis in the middle of the city, making it one of the most idyllic places to visit. Especially on a sunny afternoon.
One of the earliest owners, Willem van Waelwijck, named the manor and the moated castle after his lovely wife Walburgis. The property also had a dovecote and a large park surrounding it. Over the past five centuries, the property served as a botanical garden, brewery and even a storage facility. The castle also housed knights, mayors and important aldermen.
Every Tuesday night in July and August, both locals and tourists gather around the castle to enjoy the delightful Walburg concerts, officially known as the Parkies.
Inside the moated castle, you'll find a loungy bar and restaurant with a lovely terrace overlooking the pond and its fountain.
