The Main Square is Belgium's largest market square and the biggest outdoor event location in the city of Sint-Niklaas. Measuring 3.19 hectares (7.88 acres), the square exceeds all other Belgian market places.
The market on Thursday has been around for 5 centuries. Every week about 150 market traders gather on the square, attracting many loyal visitors.
The buildings around the Main Square give you an exquisite example of what Sint-Niklaas has to offer you. The monumental historical façades narrate the city's history and the pieces of art are a sight for sore eyes. The delightful bars, sunlit terraces and cozy resting places are the perfect spots for a brief moment of rest during your stay in the city.
Are you visiting Sint-Niklaas in early September? Make sure you don't miss out on the Vredefeesten. During this spectacular event, which anually takes place in the first weekend of September, the Main Square is occupied by dozens of wonderful hot air balloons.
