Today, The Cipierage is one of the most festive locations in the Grote Markt: it's the place where you find the flags. In the past, it housed the city council and it was also used to keep the city's prisoners.

High up in the attic of the Cipierage prisoners were locked in cages. In the SteM museum, you can marvel at the cage door of one of the so-called 'muiten'.

Today, there's a delightful bar in the basement of the old prison, in which you can enjoy refreshments and snacks under the impressive three-centred arches.

In the baroque Old Parish House ('Oude Parochiehuis') you'll find the city's tourist office, which in 2018 will move to the city shop in the renovated city hall. At that time, both buildings will get a new destination.
