SteM is short for 'Stedelijk Museum'. The city's museum is located in an old weaving mill slash dyeing house in the 'Zwijgershoek' square.
This museum of cultural history brings to life the history of Sint-Niklaas and the Waasland area through three story lines that focus on the humans living here. What makes this museum extra special, is the knitting studio in which various machines are demonstrated on a regular basis. Also, the open depot, which has a large share of the reserve collections, will make this museum definitely worth your while.
From September to May, every fourth Thursday of the month, a short and original event dealing with the museum takes place here: 'Opdonder4'. Feel free to drop in and have a look. Entry is free.
